NORTHERN INSULATION COMPANIES ‘HOT UP’ AWARDS WITH TRIO OF WINS
York-based Solarwall and Newcastle- based KNW swept the board at the National Insulation Association (NIA) awards, scooping up a trio of wins. Solarwall received the long service award along with best PR campaign for the industry and KNW picked up the best customer service award. The awards are a new feature of the NIA conference and are designed to recognise and reward best practice.
The annual event was held at The Belfry Hotel, near Birmingham on Wednesday 9th December, with a record number of delegates for the third year running. Representatives from across the insulation industry attended (solid wall insulation, cavity wall insulation, loft insulation and draft proofing).
This year’s speakers included: David Kidney MP, Department of Energy and Climate Change; Phillip Sellwood, Chief Executive of the Energy Saving Trust; Andrew Warren, Director for the Association for the Conservation of Energy; and Dr Garry Felgate, Chief Executive of the Energy Retail Association.
The long service award is an accolade to Solarwall’s 30 years in the industry. Established in 1977, managing director Sue Lamb and her team have grown the Clifton-based company into a thriving business specialising in energy efficiency with a turnover of £6 million and 100 employees serving 100,000 customers across Yorkshire, South Humberside and Teesside.
Earlier this year Solarwall took the decision to employ PR specialists Trimedia to take the company forward and help communicate the benefits of its key insulation and renewable energy products. This is paying off already and the award for best PR campaign highlights how far the company has come in raising its profile within the media and the marketplace.
Sue Lamb, managing director of Solarwall, comments: “2009 has been a challenging year for the insulation industry and we are delighted to end the year on a positive note. The two award wins demonstrate our reputation and longevity within the marketplace and I am looking forward to facing the challenges of a new year with the same drive and resilience.”
Ken Middlemass, chairman and executive director of KNW, comments: “This year has been a very challenging for the industry and the economy as a whole but it is heartening to see KNW and Solarwall beating the challenge. Bringing these awards to the North has been a fantastic achievement and shows that the North can weather the storm by continuing to provide exceptional standards of service and business in the region.”
